Brain Cactus!

I sculpted a head out of clay back in highschool, and my ceramic skills weren't up to par back then so I made it with the top of the head open. Which turned out to be really awesome because it gave me the idea to make it into a planter! Then one day, I was at the farmers market and came across cacti that looked like brains. Bingo! I planted one in there, and it grew and grew, until I accidentally over watered it one day. Then it just slowly died and shrank up. Well, I was at the farmers market again the other day and came across the Brain Cacti again! I bought myself another, and I didn't realize until I got home but the one I bought wasn't the same as the dead one. Which turned out to be a good thing, because my new one is a better version of the old one for many reasons.

This is my old, dead, prickly, sad looking one.

And this is my new, cute, soft, baby one.

The head is hollow all the way through, so to make it a planter I put some plastic thingy in the bottom...
... and then lined it with a plastic bag.

I'm so glad to finally be able to yank that old one out and replace it!

It was impossible for me to not get dirt all over the poor little cactus, though.
But luckly for my fingers, the cactus is actually every soft to the touch! It almost feels like fur, so I was able to just brush the dirt off.

I also found it funny that the bag of potting mix we have is almost as big as me! Haha.

Now the sculpture, brain and everything, is back in its rightful spot looking as refreshed and clean and alive as ever!

  1. I've never seen a cactus like this one. It looks so cool, I hope I get to find one too. It sounds like it would be fun to touch.
